It was 1930 when
Henry Bayer first started quarrying limestone at the Stone Haven property on the
west side of Manhattan, Kansas. It was Henry's enterprising spirit that
developed the business that is now called Bayer Stone, Inc. In the 1930's
quarrying and cutting stone was all done by hand with hammers, and chisels.
Although Henry's property at Stone Haven is no longer quarried today,
Bayer Stone quarries stone in other locations of Kansas including Chase and
Pottawatomie counties. Bayer Stone also fabricates Limestone from other parts of
Kansas as well as Limestone from Indiana. After 75 years in business
Bayer Stone, Inc. is still a thriving company today. Henry's son Max
led the way as
President for many years and on April 1, 2006 Max's son in- law Alan
Harshbarger took over as CEO. Max's daughter Janell Harshbarger has been named
Vice President - Treasurer and long time business associate Helen Pauly is Vice
President - Secretary.
To help celebrate this special anniversary
year Bayer Stone is having an open house at the plant in St. Mary's Kansas
September 15th,16th and 17th, 9:00am until 3:00pm each day with tours of the
